Live Well York Newsletter - September 2022

Welcome to the latest edition of the newsletter. This is the first newsletter we've created within the Live Well York website (rather than a PDF). This should enhance the accessibility of the newsletter and the site in general. Here's this edition's content:

Niggles

Do you have a Live Well York niggle? Here's some recent feedback we received:

“I was looking for places where older people could gather for a cuppa and a natter and it included lots of other clubs like tennis clubs and craft groups”

Activities are organised by their primary reason. So, if you're searching for a food and drink activity, like a coffee morning, you should find it under the "Food & Drink" filter. However, some other activities, like a tennis club, may also serve drinks. Those activities should not appear under the "Food & Drink"  section, but sometimes slip through the net. We've reviewed the food and drink filter, and removed the tennis club and other incorrect entries.

If a filter doesn’t work for you then let us know via the feedback form. This helps to improve the overall experience for everyone.

Adopt a Live Well York page

100% Digital York have recently adopted and updated the Digital Inclusion page. We're now offering this opportunity to our partners and other similar organisations. This model helps to strengthen the concept of a single place for community-based solutions, and it's what citizens said they wanted in the Age Friendly survey.

Live Well York has existing traffic (between 2500-3000 users a month), is accessible, and uses social media (twitter) to widen engagement. We can also report analytics on how many people are viewing particular pages.

In return we require a named contact to commit to reviewing the page every six months (we'll remind you). Call Rob on 01904 551006 for more information.

New Pages

Digital Inclusion

The 100% Digital York logo

The Digital Inclusion page is now the home for 100% Digital York. It’s a partnership of organisations which aims to give residents in York the choice and opportunity to get online and know where to access help when they need it.

Alcohol and Wellbeing

The logo for the "Lower my Drinking" campaign. The text also says "Take the quiz" with a simple line drawing of a bottle and York Minster.

“Do you know how much you’re drinking and how it might be affecting you?”

Alcohol and Wellbeing is a new page that includes a quiz to help people reduce their drinking.

Young People's Survival Guide

The York Family Information Service has recently set up an Instagram account for the Young People Survival Guide. Follow it here:

Thanks to everyone that came to the July meeting. It was great to hear from Alex at Abilitynet.

"AbilityNet is a pioneering UK charity with a global perspective. We believe the power of digital technology should be available to everyone, regardless of ability or age. Improved events calendar

We've received partner feedback regarding the Events Calendar. We're now looking at ways to enhance the functionality and design. Please bear with us while we work with our developers on the improvements. In addition, we'll explore whether it's possible to create a printable activities sheet filtered by venue.

Cost of Living Crises

As with many groups and organisations, we have become increasingly concerned about the cost of living crisis, in particular the risk of fuel poverty. We are aware that more people will have to make hard choices between food and heating. As a result discussions are taking place about the potential of creating “warm places”. We will list them on Live Well York in the same way we list Community Food Help. As a starting point, it would be great if you could have a look down the list of community food options and let us know what else could be included. Please contact LiveWellYork@york.gov.uk.
