Care Home Resident Engagement Initiatives

York Cares

York Cares is a partnership of the city's leading employers committed to making York a better place through employee-volunteering. York Cares offers a number of activities to engage employee-volunteers, enabling them to make a difference in their local communities. Through the Social Connections programme, employee-volunteers can deliver a number of activities to contribute to the wellbeing of older people in York. Activities include:

  • Catch up calls: employee-volunteers provide a weekly call to a vulnerable older person who would benefit from a regular phone call and the opportunity to have a chat.
  • Pen Pals: employee-volunteers exchange regular letters with an older person to help them to stay connected.
  • Tea and Technology: employee-volunteers offer over the phone technology support, helping older people to master the skills to use video calling, social media, online shopping etc and helping them stay connected with their friends and families and access services remotely.
  • Seasonal parties: employee-volunteers host a party at your care home or independent living community, delivering activities and providing seasonal treats. Please note that seasonal parties will not be happening whilst social distancing measures are in place.

If you or someone you know would benefit from any of these activities please email info@yorkcares.co.uk for information on how to get involved.
