Free wellbeing and interest courses for carers - WEA
Do you give unpaid care and support to others?
Here at the WEA we think you're amazing. To say thank you we're offering free online short courses for all unpaid adult carers and caregivers. Giving you the chance to explore new interests either by yourself or with your cared for adult.
From online visits to stately homes, exploring great works of literature through to arts, crafts and improving your mental wellbeing our courses are designed for carers, by carers.

Mental Health & Wellbeing Activities – York Mind & Partners
York Mind, in partnership with other organisations have an exciting programme of mental health and wellbeing activities to support individuals’ needs.
Activities will run across the year, with staggered start dates and include guided learning such as Mindfulness, vocational courses, facilitated peer support, green exercise, woodland wellbeing sessions, social events and support groups.
York Mind will provide the single point of access for participants to enrol on individual activities.

Discount card for carers
Although you're committed to your caring role, you also have a right to a life of your own and taking part in any leisure or social activities you enjoy.
Free & Discounted admission
York Carers Centre has a free discount card for carers in York that can save you money at nearly 50 local businesses; a wide range of shops, services, restaurants and gyms are taking part. This is available to all carers who register with York Carers Centre.
A number of places allow free or discounted admission when a carer needs to escort someone with a disability. Remember to ask about 'discount for carers' when you're out and about, as venues have their own eligibility criteria.

If you register with York Carers Centre you will receive a discount card automatically.

CarerSmart is a new club from Carers Trust, the UK’s largest carers charity, and is open to carers, people with care needs and staff and volunteers across the Carers Trust network.

Carers Week
Each year in June, Carers week highlights the vital work done by carers and raises awareness of the issues they face. A number of events and activities for carers takes place, which aim to:
- highlight and celebrate the contribution made by carers
- campaign for better support and services for carers
- promote policies and best practice that can improve carers' quality of life
- reach out to 'hidden' carers, ensuring they know where to find help and support
