Grant Opportunity: Small tasks at Home

Last updated:

Small Tasks at Home is a grant funding pot to enable people to remain independent by providing free or subsidised tasks for householders in York.

The tasks must be within the persons home or grounds, this excludes communal areas and tasks that are the responsibility of a landlord. The application must be for people that can not manage to carry out the tasks themselves or need initial motivation or life-skills to do so.

The application can be area specific (eg Acomb) or could be for a specific group (e.g. older people).  If it's more than a one-off task they need to be for people on low incomes with signposting for commercial organisations where someone is able to pay. Alternatively a group/organisation can have a non-commercial and subsidised/free rate.

Priority will be given to applications that create a sustained approach through a neighbourly, or leading to a neighbourly, model. We are aware that many residents in York receive support from a neighbour, friends or families but that support is not always in place. They may feel disconnected from their community. Therefore deliberate approaches are sometimes required to create a match between say a volunteer and a householder. Once a neighbourly relationship is developed there may no longer need to be a formal volunteering set up in place.

This preventative funding is made available through the Better Care Fund. It is to enable new groups to establish, or for existing groups to increase, the range or quantity of tasks they can carry out. We currently fund two ongoing initiatives through this fund with the remaining fund available for 2022-23 being £15,232. The fund is available to charities, social enterprises, voluntary and community groups.

The application process closes at 12pm on 31st May 2022. Grant applications will be assessed and awarded in June 2022.
