Since 1939, York CVS has supported thousands of local charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises to do just this. We help them focus on what they do best – making a difference for individuals and their communities.

Explore runs 15 libraries in York including York Explore – our flagship library and home of the City Archive – 5 Reading Cafes, a mobile library, and a home library service - and employs more than 80 people. Explore provides public libraries and archives under a contract with the City of York Council, but Explore is a different kind of public service – an independent mutual society governed by a board of directors and owned by members of the community and our staff. Everything we do is shaped by the needs and ideas of the communities we serve.
Explore libraries, archives and cafes are places where people of all ages know they belong, and where they can connect with each other or with the history of York. They are places to discover the joy of reading, find trusted information, and encounter new ideas. Explore challenges imaginations and ignites creativity for old and young. Our spaces are free and open to everyone.
Age UK York is an independent local charity. We've been working in the local community to help older people for nearly 50 years. We have 100 dedicated staff and over 400 volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in York. Other services include: our befriending service; helping people after a stay in hospital; and holidays for older people.
Age UK York encourages older people to speak out about local and national issues. We are here to make more of life in York.
York Mind is an independent provider of high quality mental health services in York and its surrounding area.
Our wide range of services help individuals as they recover from a variety of mental health conditions. We are a leading local provider of services supporting individuals recovering from mental ill-health to achieve outcomes that will progress them towards recovery, social inclusion and integration in mainstream activity such as learning, volunteering or employment.
We believe that the condition does not define the individual. To that end, we campaign to raise awareness of mental ill health and combat the stigma surrounding mental health conditions.
York Mind aims to be an inclusive and accessible organization, emphasising the importance of acceptance and tolerance of the beliefs, opinions and wishes of our clients.
Our organisation is made up of member GP practices. We are an NHS organisation led by clinicians who understand the needs of the community and the impact that local services have on patients' health.
We serve a population of more than 351,000 York, Selby, Tadcaster, Easingwold and Pocklington people from and the surrounding towns, villages and rural areas.
We are responsible for the monitoring of commissioned healthcare and the planning and design of many of the health services. Our main areas of responsibility are:

York Human Rights City is a catalyst for York's people, businesses and organisations to champion a vibrant, diverse, fair and safe city.
York Human Rights City Network (YHRCN) is a civil society partnership hosted jointly by York CVS (Centre for Voluntary Service) and the Centre for Applied Human Rights (CAHR) at the University of York. York CVS roots YHRCN within York’s vibrant civil society. CAHR roots it in the human rights discourse. Our Steering Group comprises representatives from civil society organisations working in each of the five priority rights areas.
A Human Rights City is one that seeks to engage with people’s real concerns by using a human rights framework to address local, everyday priorities -such as the right to good quality education, housing, health and standard of living for all its residents, without discrimination.
Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust provide a range of mental health, learning disability and eating disorder services for children, adults and older people living in the Vale of York, as well as
most of North Yorkshire, County Durham and Darlington and Teesside.
Citizens Advice York is an independent local charity providing advice on a wide variety of issues including: welfare benefits; money advice; employment; immigration; homelessness; housing; and family legal issues.

York Carers Centre is an independent local charity offering free support to unpaid carers of any age living or caring for someone who lives in York.
We offer carers one to one support, a Carers Emergency Card, regular newsletters, opportunities to meet up in the community with other carers, benefits and rights advice and Carers Assessments of Need. As well as adults we also support young carers (5 to 18 years) and young adult carers (18 to 25 years).
York has joined the UK Age Friendly network and is working towards gaining age friendly status from the World Health Organisation.
Being Age Friendly means that older residents are encouraged to become active citizens, shaping the place that they live in by working alongside local groups, council and businesses to identify and make changes to the physical and social environment they live in.
York’s Local Offer for SEND is a user friendly site for children, young people and their families with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The site offers a range of information on services, education and health providers, activities, advice and a range of contact details of places and people in and around York. The site aims to offer its users with as much information regarding what is on offer in York to young people with additional needs, to ensure a positive childhood from 0-25 years old. With information starting with birth, to picking the right primary school, the process of applying for an EHCP or Support Plan, and moving through academic years all the way to preparing for adulthood and all the obstacles that come with growing up and leaving school. For an answer to any question regarding SEND in York, the Local Offer for SEND can help.
OCAY helps people with issues and problems ranging from finances and benefits, through to complaints and disability issues. Many of the people we support have underlying issues such as dementia, ill health, disability and frailty as well as the immediate issues for which they seek our help.
The service is free to users, confidential, and independent of any other service. We work from an office in the Priory Street Centre. We are open Monday to Friday, can offer home visits and will work with clients for as long as their situation requires.
