Having a ‘Carer friendly’ workplace for your employees can make a significant difference to retention and productivity, and help you get the best results for your organisation and staff.

  • Good practice for managing carers in your workforce
  • Support with developing ‘carer friendly’ policies
  • Training for your workforce/Human Resources team
  • Methods to support carers in the workplace – for example drops-ins and Carer Champions

Support in the workplace for carers

Managing caring and employment responsibilities can be challenging, but also very rewarding, with the right support in place.

Working carers may also have rights to:

  • request flexible working
  • time off in emergencies
  • protection against discrimination or harassment under the Equality Act 2010

Jobcentre Plus

If you want to do paid work as well as caring, or find work when you stop being a carer, Jobcentre Plus can help with training and improving your skills, even if you don't claim benefits.

They can often help with costs while you’re training or going to interviews.
