We in Healthwatch York are asking you to share your experiences of the rising cost of living in York. Our aim is to develop a real understanding of how rising costs are affecting people’s physical and mental health.

Our Manager, Siân Balsom, confirmed “We’re already hearing from people who are struggling due to rising costs. More of the calls and emails we receive through our Information and signposting service now highlight money, or the lack of it, as a concern. Similarly when we are out and about at libraries and community centres, rising costs are on everyone’s minds. Even people who are not directly affected have talked about their worries for other people.

We know some people find it hard to talk about money worries. But as part of the Healthwatch network, we are encouraging everyone to speak up. The more we hear, the more we can highlight what’s really happening for people in York, and the impact this has on people’s physical and mental health.”

All of the feedback from the survey will be published, and shared with Healthwatch England to feed into national work on the impact of rising costs on health. It will also help us target local support activity and resources to where they are most needed.

The survey is available online.

Paper copies can be collected from us at York CVS on Priory Street. Alternatively you can ask in your local Explore library and staff will be happy to print a copy for you.

Copies of the survey in any other format can be requested by contacting the Healthwatch York office: by email at healthwatch@yorkcvs.org.uk or by phone 01904 621133. You can also call to talk through the questions with a member of the team if you would prefer to do this.
