Japanese Taiko Drumming courses and workshops

Taiko is an energetic drumming style that combines equal elements of music, martial arts style moves, dance and fun! It is a community activity for all ages that originated in Japan, which helps with developing confidence, improving wellbeing, enhancing concentration, increasing fitness and promoting dedication, discipline and respect for each other.

Courses are run throughout the year on a 6 week basis, where we go through the patterns, movement and theatrical elements of a specific piece, and work on fun drills and exercises to improve our playing, culminating in playing the complete piece as a group at the end of the course.

Complete beginners are always welcome, and we will always go through the basics to give new people a good grounding.

Classes are currently held for adults (16+) at the Rawcliffe Rec on Friday evenings. Please check the website for up to date information at www.tengutaiko.com

Classes for children (8 - 15 years) are currently on hold, but please do contact us at tengutaiko@hotmail.com if you are interested in your child(ren) starting up.
