Workers Educational Association
WEA

The WEA (Workers Educational Association) are a National charity that delivers a wide range of adult learning courses including many that engage and inform rather than lead to a qualification. Subjects include modern and classic foreign languages, british and world history, literature, art, cooking, personal development, meditation and mindfulness. WEA also offer courses leading to a qualification or helping people into work. Courses are usually for two hours per week either during the day or evening. Fees are low due to government support, and can be either further reduced for households on a low income or free to most people on means tested benefits. Some courses are free for everyone.
The WEA has been providing high-quality educational opportunities to communities since 1903. They are committed to adult education for social purpose and to achieve social justice, developing partnerships to meet individual and collective needs. They use active learning and a student centred approach in which teachers and students work as equals. They constantly strive to adapt their services to meet people’s needs, making full use of technology.
If you are interested in environmental issues you may be interested in one of the Yorkshire and Humber Green Branch courses on a range of sustainability-related topics, or you may wish to contribute to a discussion in developing and shaping of such courses by joining the Green Branch.
