Tang Hall Big Local

In December 2012 Tang Hall found out it had been selected to be part of a very special National Lottery funded programme. 150 areas in England were chosen to allow residents to decide for themselves how to spend their money – often called Participatory Budgeting or Community Lead Local Development (CLLD). York were in the third and last wave, benefitting from early lessons learnt in other areas. Tang Hall Big Local (THBL) develops its’ Local Plans via consultation and feedback from the local community. It aims to make Tang Hall a better place to live and work.

  • Using £1m to make a massive and lasting difference
  • Working with specialists and collaborators to ensure programme delivery is of the highest quality

What does Tang Hall Big Local do?

Tang Hall Big Local has consulted with local residents about what they would like to happen see in their local area.  THBL supports local groups and community enterprises by providing small grants, support and advice for projects which meet the needs of the local community.  Our Local Plan priorities are;

  • Wellbeing
  • Families and Young People
  • Green infrastructure
  • Building Connections

The Tang Hall Big Local office is located at Tang Hall Community Centre, where we currently support/fund:

  • Events for the community
  • North Yorkshire Youth to deliver Youth Provision
  • TAPTY – creative art and play for pre-school children – Friday morning
  • Food Circle York – a sustainable alternative to the current food system – catering, cooking courses, organic veg for Food Coop
  • Tang Hall Food Cooperative – a People’s Health Trust grant project working with local residents to grow, cook and share food.
  • Citizen’s Advice York – Friday morning advice session at TH Community Centre
