What is Special Olympics?

The mission of Special Olympics Great Britain is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual (learning) disabilities.

This provides opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of skills, gifts and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Special Olympics City of York

As a Special Olympics Great Britain branch member, Special Olympics City of York welcomes and encourages new participants with intellectual (learning) disabilities to take part in sports training and competition with our partner organisations/clubs.

Table tennis will be introduced shortly. We are also seeking volunteers, in a variety of roles, to support our athletes in their activities and would welcome the opportunity to support any mainstream sports club seeking to become fully inclusive.
