Description
Homeshare York is a not-for-profit service, partnered with Age UK, that matches a person aged 55+ with a younger person for mutual benefit. Homeshare matches a homeowner who has a spare room, and could benefit from some support and/or companionship, with a sharer who can provide 10 hours of help a week in exchange for accommodation.
The service gives an older person the opportunity to continue living independently in their own home with the support and companionship of a Homesharer, whilst also offering a viable option to Keyworkers; other young professionals or postgraduate students struggling to find affordable accommodation.
Homesharers can help with practical tasks, such as cleaning, shopping or gardening, as well as providing companionship and a reassuring overnight presence. The service can also reduce isolation and improve wellbeing for both parties.
Homeshare York is a not-for-profit scheme with a small monthly charge to the Householder and a monthly cost to the Homesharer to cover the cost of the matching process and ongoing support.
Research in Practice have carried out a Homeshare interview with a match between two people to get a feel of how a match can work.
