Be Independent Telecare Response Service – City of York Council

Description

Be Independent provides access to emergency assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Personalised equipment is connected to your home phone, and when you activate it in an emergency you can speak with staff in our control centre. If you are unable to talk, they will assume that you need help.

Operators are on standby 24/7 and respond either by:

  • sending a mobile responder to your home,
  • alerting the emergency services,
  • contacting your doctor, relative or friend
  • offering advice, support and information

A personalised profile on their system helps them quickly find the right help for you.

You will also receive regular wellbeing visits from mobile responders who can provide advice and support to service users.

How it works

Be Independent connect their Lifeline box to your existing phone line and offer a user-activated pendant (neck or wrist worn), or advanced fall detector wrist pendant. In case of emergency the pendant calls for help through the phone line and allows you to speak directly to our Control Operator. The pendant can be used inside or outside your property (within a certain range).

What do I need?

You need to have a working telephone line. But if you don’t have a land line our call handling system can be programmed to your own mobile phone but please note telecare equipment is not available with this option.

The Lifeline box can also be connected to more advanced equipment, such as bed sensors, epilepsy sensors and heat detectors.
