For Your Convenience
For the last few years, within the city of York, the Council supported the ‘Take a Seat’ scheme where partner businesses provided seating for customers and visitors who have a disability, a long-term health condition or frailty, without the need to make a purchase.
In 2024, the council carried out a consultation about wider accessibility improvements across the city and feedback on the ‘Take A Seat’ Scheme was that it wasn’t visible enough and people requested that it included information around accessibility of the partner locations.
Based on that feedback and following a recent audit of all partner locations, we have made improvements to the Take a Seat scheme and are now calling it ‘For Your Convenience’ as we feel this better reflects the facilities the new scheme provides.
For Your Convenience
The audits provided better insight on accessibility improving information to customers so they can what partner locations meets their access needs.
These improvements now indicate:
- Access: is there step free access
- Seating: whether any seating has arms or not
- Toilets: whether any toilets are accessible for wheelchair users
- Baby Changing: whether there are baby changing facilities
New window stickers
It is now easier to recognise a partner location with the newly designed and easier to see window stickers that will look similar to the one below. What is shown on the sticker will depend on what facilities that partner location can provide.
All window stickers have a QR code which will direct people to this page so they can view all our partner locations if the one they are currently at doesn’t meet their requirements, for example there are steps, and the customer uses a wheelchair or needs an accessible toilet.
