Advice York is the network of advice agencies in York who offer free, independent, impartial, confidential legal advice in areas of social welfare law, including welfare benefits, debt, housing and employment; working together so that people have access to the free, independent, quality advice services that they need, and other services who support and enable people to access advice.

The vision of Advice York is for people in York to fully understand their legal rights and responsibilities to help them to resolve their problems and overcome disadvantage, reduce poverty and promote health and wellbeing.

The network aims to

  • enable people to be referred quickly and easily to the most appropriate advice provider
  • enable people to receive timely, appropriate advice
  • increase the access points in the community where people can get advice
  • work towards all advice being quality assured
  • enable people to know where and how to access information and advice
  • reduce recurring problems faced by clients
  • support the sustainability of community advice services

Advice York works together to ensure advice services meet good practice on access, diversity and equality principles; specifically targeting resources towards those in most need, including excluded groups and individuals who are most likely to have social welfare problems and face the greatest barriers to advice.

Advice York partners are committed to working together to provide the best services for the city.
