NIGGLES Do you have a Live Well York niggle?
“I was looking for places where older people could gather for a cuppa and a natter and it included lots of other clubs like tennis clubs and craft groups”
Live Well York response – we organise activities by their primary reason so people can find the tennis club in “sports and fitness” and the craft activity in “arts and craft”. However, we do not always get it right. If the filter doesn’t work for you then let us know. This feedback helps to improve the experience for everyone. We have now updated the food and drink filter.

Own a page: There is now the option, for a group that leads on a multi-agency community initiative, to own a page. This enables the initiative to show information on a website that is already receiving traffic; is accessible; enables LWY to offer some social media to widen the reach and creates that concept of a single place for community-based solutions. This is what citizens told us that they wanted through an Age Friendly York survey. We will also be introducing how to navigate Live Well York where people are providing IT training eg/ through Life Long Learning courses. In return we need to have a named contact who can commit to reviewing the content of the page every 6 months – don’t worry we will remind you. We are currently building the content of the Digital Inclusion – 100% Digital York page.

New pages The Digital Inclusion page is now the home for 100% Digital York. It’s a partnership of organisations which aims to give residents in York the choice and opportunity to get online and know where to access help when they need it.
Alcohol and Wellbeing is a new page that includes a quiz to help people reduce their drinking. “Do you know how much you’re drinking and how it might be affecting you?”

Its important for people with impaired sight or dyslexia are equally able to access info on our websites. There is technology to help, e.g. screen readers.

Coming up: Improved events calendar - We have received partner feedback and are responding to this by looking at ways to improve this. We are now exploring utilising the community activities directory as one entry. If it is an ongoing activity, it will appear as normal in the community activities directory but will also show in the events calendar so people can see what’s on and available on that day/date. If it is a one-off event, it will show as normal in the events calendar. We will also look to improve the design of the calendar. There is lots of planning required to make these improvements so please do bear with us. In addition, we will explore whether it is possible to create a printable activities sheet by venue by filtering all activities at a specific location.
Health conditions – you may be aware that menopause has had a higher profile in recent months. We have added a new section under Health and Wellbeing information pages for Health Conditions. Live Well York will not be the primary website but can navigate accordingly, if you feel there are any specific health conditions that should be added please contact livewellyork@york.gov.uk. Please note that Long Term Health Conditions are on a separate page.
